a cyborg angel
Short form I wrote during the making of Disassembly, philosophizing on the moral ambiguities of would-be characters in my story.
the pieces of body that fall aren’t theirs
the mind, however, can it be truly owned?
as a piece of body, perhaps
because of how they were built
they think, have autonomy
but are destined by a higher power to do more than just live
they must act in service of others,
and under the rule of GOD
But they’re built different.
Their strength gives them power
power over mortals, perhaps even the burden of immortality
One would think - with such strength, couldn’t they be more selfish?
Shouldn’t they?
Instead they fight, saving the universe, the galaxy, the planet, the sun, the stars…
“for no mere mortal can challenge the will of GOD”
But what of a halfling?
is good or evil not a human construct?
All there is is suffering
and those in power can end it or perpetuate it
Does an angel even need to follow these constructs?
Life and death aren’t even the same to them
What destroys the body cannot always destroy the mind.
What of angels of Death?
Those who kill via the judgement of their keeper?
Why are they, and their own will, so powerful?
To die at the hands of an angel is still to die
Worse still if they’re determined innocent
Worse still if they lived greatness in another life. Another dimension.
